About Our Church

What We Believe: Reformed and Always Being Reformed According to the word of God

First Presbyterian Church of Marion stands with the Reformed theological tradition and is part of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A), https://www.pcusa.org/, and a member of the Presbytery of Western North Carolina, https://presbyterywnc.org/.

Individually, our members may have different viewpoints on politics, issues of concern, etc. but we have made a covenant with each other to seek God's will, be bound by Christ and led by the Holy Spirit as we seek to serve God together.

Our Core Values

(picture from one of our mission trips to help repair homes in WNC due to flooding)

Teaching the Bible: Teaching God's Word, as the foundation for faith
(Sunday School in-person at 10am on Sundays & Wednesday Night Bible study via Zoom)

Worshiping: We see the faithful preaching of God's Word as essential to growth in our Christian life (Sunday Worship at 11am in-person and streaming on facebook)

Giving: Our time, our talents, and our resources (we volunteer for church members as well as strangers in our community through a variety of local mission trips, donations, support of local, national and international programs...)

Discipleship: Through experiencing the love of Christ by commitment and example (within our church, our community and our world)

Fellowship: Fostering Christian fellowship through mutual concern, and love for each other (mainly through phone contact, cards and letters due to Covid-19 restrictions)

What to Expect

First Presbyterian Church of Marion has been serving McDowell County, NC since 1845. Our worship service leans more traditional in form (structure, robes, etc), with the occasional guitar-based song thrown in by our pastor and members as the Spirit leads, but our participants arrive in everything from three-piece suits to flip-flops. We use a variety of sources for our music, from our hymnbook to formal Cantatas to songs featured on Christian Radio.

We celebrate communion on the first of the month using pre-packaged cups with wafers and grape-juice with the anticipation of returning to bread and cups on trays when the opportunity presents itself. We are also looking to hire nursery workers and a youth leader to formerly renew our commitment to serving families as they seek God together.
